⭕️ The Importance of the Creating Circle Mindset

Both in Personal and Professional Lives

Hi everyone,

It has been over a month since I last shared updates with you, but starting today, I will resume sending them regularly.

In today's post, I won't be discussing my indie journey. Currently, I am contemplating working full-time for a startup, and next week, I will share all the valuable lessons I've learned from my six-month indie-making adventure.

Today's topic revolves around the circle mindset that I have been implementing in both my personal and professional life. I truly believe that this approach can be beneficial for anyone looking to broaden their horizons and expand their perspectives.

Let me begin by taking you back to my first startup experience. We were in the business of selling discounted hotels, much like what Jetsetter did in the US. Our aim was to dominate the Turkish hotels market, but being newcomers in the industry, we faced a daunting challenge due to fierce competition.

After careful consideration, we made a pivotal decision. We chose to shift our focus entirely to small boutique honeymoon hotels in the Aegean Sea region. Through relentless effort and dedication, we managed to secure the top position on search engine result pages. Buoyed by this success, we replicated the same strategy for Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Antalya, in that order. As a result, our website became the go-to destination for booking honeymoon resorts in these cities.

This strategic move not only helped us find our niche but also allowed us to convey our message more effectively to our website visitors and even to our friends. We could clearly articulate what we were offering in a concise and compelling way, which resonated with our target audience.

Now, let me break down the approach we adopted:

Having established our dominance in the small boutique honeymoon hotels segment in Turkey, we decided to expand our focus to include small boutique hotels in the Aegean Sea that catered to adults and elders. We applied the same winning formula we had developed for boutique honeymoon hotels to this new market.

By following this approach, we were able to create a strong and interconnected circle of offerings. Our specialization in honeymoon hotels gave us the foundation to enter the broader market of boutique hotels, while still maintaining our unique selling proposition. This allowed us to cater to a wider range of customers and build a solid reputation in the industry.

By focusing on a specific niche and gradually expanding our services, we were able to achieve significant growth and make a lasting impact. I hope this example and the concept of creating circles resonates with you and provides valuable insights for your own business journey.

How Can I Apply This Mindset to Different Types of Businesses?

Let’s explore some examples to illustrate how this mindset can be applied to various types of businesses.

Imagine you’re an expert in swimming and you want to create engaging blog content in this field. Now, swimming is a vast topic with numerous resources available on the internet. So, it might be more effective to narrow down your market. Here are a few potential areas to focus on:

  1. The basics of swimming techniques for babies.

  2. The benefits of swimming for individuals with shoulder injuries.

  3. Fundamentals of swimming for adults.

  4. The advantages of swimming for seniors.

By selecting one or more of these specific areas, you can define your target market and create a circle of expertise within the swimming community. Let’s say you choose to focus on the first option: the basics of swimming techniques for babies. As you provide valuable content on this topic, you can then organize courses for parents who want to enhance their swimming skills. This would open up another circle within your swimming community.

Now, let’s consider another example in the SaaS space. Many SaaS companies try to launch products with a wide range of features. However, in the early stages, it can be challenging to excel at each feature. By focusing on one key feature and one specific market, you can more easily define your market and establish your presence.

For instance, if you decide to target the CRM market, you could start by developing a CRM solution tailored specifically for accountants or dentists. Once you’ve established a strong presence in that market, you can then add another circle by expanding your CRM offering to another niche.

Similarly, if you plan to build a lead prospecting solution for e-commerce companies, you could initially focus solely on Shopify stores and strive to become the best solution for that platform. Once you’ve achieved dominance in that market, you can then expand to other CMS solutions.

These examples demonstrate the power of starting small and gradually expanding your circles of expertise. By becoming great at one niche, you establish a strong foundation that allows you to confidently add additional circles and drive faster growth.

Can We Apply This Technique to Our Daily Routines?

Absolutely! This technique can be applied to our daily routines as well. Let’s say you set a goal to run 10 kilometers by the end of the year. As a beginner, attempting to run 10 kilometers next week might be too challenging. Instead, focus on building the habit of running consistently, 2 to 3 times a week, regardless of the distance. Even running 2 kilometers each day can contribute to building that habit, which forms the core of your circle.

Once you’ve successfully built the habit, you can gradually increase the distance you run. Eventually, you’ll reach a point where running 10 kilometers feels right for you. Trust me, your body will provide the signals and let you know when it’s the right time to take on that distance.

Remember, the key is to start small, establish a habit, and then incrementally build upon it. This approach allows you to progress steadily and avoid overwhelming yourself. With patience and consistency, you’ll be amazed at the progress you can make.

Every journey starts with a small step, or rather, a circle. Just as circles symbolize completeness and continuity, creating small circles for your business and goals can propel you forward.

Remember, our bodies thrive on small wins—they motivate us and keep us going. And whenever you find yourself in need of an extra boost of motivation, I encourage you to listen to this inspiring song that captures the essence of perseverance and triumph.

And ask yourself, what will be your core circle for your upcoming goal?
